What a hassle! Broke down miles and miles from home lol

Going back to uni, 150 mile trip, broke down EXACTLY 75 miles into the journey on the other side of birmingham, M42

Everything just cut out, no llights, no power, nothing. Convieniently half way up a steep slip road to a petrol station though.

Tried bumping it but the battery was completely flat and after running a few seconds just died.. Tried jumping it and same story - so b8rz not holding charge, that'll be the alternator or retifier then? Anyway bike shop only 4 miles away, so after getting number off garage they came and picked me up, and the bike will be there til its fixed (til the parts arrive pretty much) anyway i get the train on to bristol in a serious hump

defo sounds liek the reg/rec. Easy fix so shouldnt be there too long and shouldnt charge you too much either with any luck.

yeah bloke said cost of either a regulator or alternator (whichever is fooked) is about £45 plus an hours work, so not too bad. 40 quid recovery fee from the bike shop though wwhich was literally 3 miles down the road seemed a bit steep!

I had my bike recovered after an accident, 105 quid mate. Not quite the same i know but in comparison its not that bad.

If that was J.2 then I live about a minute from there and I'm pretty sure I've got a couple of spare reg/rec units knocking about...

Sounds more likely it is the alternator, though - they do seem to go all of a sudden like that.

Did they take it to Stealth in Redditch or Genesis in Bromsgrove?

That'll be Chas Mann. Supposed to be good but I've never used them... It's normally best to replace them both because failure of one usually kills the other, too. Hope the bill's not too bad for you!

Yeah Pete picked me up and is doing the work on the bike, seemed alright, I must have had a good day lol

i remember when my clutch cable broke on the way to work once, any breakdown is annoying i think. maybe you should have used the clio lol. but at least it will be a story to tell some day.

think i pay £5 a year or somthing for unlmited home recovery cant complain!

Sounds like your Reg has packed up, there not expesive, you'll more than likely need a new battary as well though.
