Did start, now wont start, backfiring :(

Post by saka_ZXR »

My zxr has been stood for about 6 months as i dont use it in winter, however i have been starting it every week and letting it run for a while just to keep the engine alive :)

Well today i finished all the work i needed to do on it and went to start it, it strugled like crazy and wouldn't start then all of a sudden there was a huge bang and flames shot out of the exhaust! i thought best to leave it and walk away, theres a full tank of petrol i put in it fresh this morning as it was almost empty.

The only work that has been done whatsoever on the bike is:

New tyres and powdercoated wheels, new seedo drive, new end can (which the bike has started and sat tickingover happily with it on) crash bobbins.

the last time the bike was running was around 2 weeks ago, any ideas why she wont start now? Battery seems healthy all lights strong and bright.

Any help much appreciated.
If it's broke spray it with WD40, if it's still broke spray it again and leave it over night, if it's still broke, bin it.

sounds flooded mate, take the plugs out and leave them out for a day or so so the fuel can dry out, then charge the battery put it all bk together n give it another go, mine did the same

yep, flooded. Had the very same problem with my first ZXR when it was laid up till i could ride it legally. Get the plugs out, give em a clean and stick em on a gas hob for 5 mins. Whack em in and itll fire up right away im willing to bet! :smt001

depends how flooded the engine is, like i said i left my plugs out all night and still wasnt enough so i sat it in the sun for half a day with the plugs out and that dried it out, also turn the fuel off when youre trying to fire it up, will stop you flooding it more
