engine spins but will not fire

Post by raul »

hi guys ;
i had the bike in the garden and over a barby q evening some nutter switched my H grips on only to find out 2 weeks later. I replaced the battery but unfortunately the alarm has locked and immobilized it so i had to remove the damn thing.It was taped into the loom at the back several wires and i had to join back the red and the yellow red (loom wires) . Now it will turn but wont fire up also when i turn the ignition on i can not hear that click at the back(fuse box area) any more . Before all this it would start first time all the time with ease, because i have another bike didn't use this one for about 3 weeks now. Cheers guys

Clearly you've missed something. I had to remove an alarm from a ZXR400 last year took a while to trace every wire and connection with the orginal loom maybe 10 different places possibly more...............

Go back and check everything and remember to rejoin wires that were cut to fit the alarm it is not just a matter of cutting the alarm out

Yeah sounds like a wiring problem somewhere which is causing it not to spark....

that,s exactly what i did where wires joined the loom i cut them off and where loom wire were split i joined them back (red, yelow red)in my case ; i know somethig's wrong ,when i put the ignition on i can't hear that click noise any more at the fuse box ,this is the only clue that could guide me to the problem ,what wire feeds that (click)?

That is strange - any time my battery goes flat (if left for a while) then the alarm/ immobiliser wouldnt work but when the battery was recharged the immobiliser would be back in business - in other wrds there shouldnt be any permanent "immobilisation" or "lock out" due to a flat battery

What this suggests is that the removal of the immobilser might not be the root casue of the probem. When you put the new battery in what were the symptoms of the immobiliser "lock out" and were they any different to what you are now seeing - ie the motor would spin but not fire.

The fact that the motor turns at all suggests that the immobilser wiring cut out is OK as iirc the bike wont even turn over if this is done wrong. Have you taken a plug out to see if you are getting sparks?

you got it wrong all the way;
the immobilizer (Acumen cat1) cuts the power to the starter AND power to the sparks . Was locked/alarmed then battery drained (at this stage even if you bump start wont work ) once been locked you need power again to disarm the system. I fitted a new battery ,made the alarm sound then tried to disarm with the key fob nothing . Got on the instruction and resulted that if the system been locked and left with no power to disarm for more than 1h (even if you get power back later) you need the special code found on the installation certificate which i do not have. If the system has been locked out and total loss of power occurs it will remain locked ,therefore i had no choice but to remove the alarm, i have been very careful and never thought that will not work , obviously I'm very intrigued WHY?

Once its removed you shouldnt have any more probs, i did the same to my 7R a few years ago when it span the motor but didnt fire. Long as you have wired everything back it should start, mine did.

As someone said, get the plugs out and check for a spark, its the only way you will know if you have done it properly. IF no spark then you'll need to trace back the wiring and make sure they are properly re-connected, i soldered mine back together to be sure. If there is a spark are the plugs soaked at all?

right ;
soldered all the wires correctly , and checked for spark-nothing (piston2) then i checked for voltage with ignition on ,all the wires (bk,r,gr,r) which connects to the coils. All good except the green (this was not taped in to the alarm) , traced it back to the CDI then checked it for continuity OK ; witch left me the last check CDI and i can not get any resistance /values (k-ohm) on the pin where green goes.Is it possible that the CDI is faulty?

put a plug against the frame and see if they're working. Even though it's 99% likely it is an electrical problem, sometimes you get tunnel vision. This will at least ensure you're looking in the right place.

Also, my immobiliser has a manual unlock procedure for such an instance. It involves turning the key in the ignition in a coded sequence. Not much help now and may not be relevant, but in future it could save you this trouble.
