best way to suspend bike ???

Post by reds »

what you guys use when servicing your bike ???

am thinking about getting a rear paddock stand so can service mine this weekend - will this be enouh or do i need a front one too ??? or can i just use bricks ???

local bike shop didnt have any paddock stands, but said they use trolley jacks - with the bike leant on them ? doesnt sound too safe to me !

The only reason i've ever needed to raise the front is to get the front wheel/fork off, Rear stand is plenty for a basic service.

If your side stand makes it tilt at quite an acute angle, you could always put a block under the side stand in order to raise it up.
Rear paddock stand on it's own is ok though. Makes chain cleaning a lot easier!

Would recommend an abba stand...they're about £90 inc fitting kit, but are well worth it imo, especially if you work on the bike a lot yourself. Much more secure than paddock stands and dead easy to use! Plus you don't have to have big bobbins sticking out of the bike :smt002
