Should I sell my ZXR4

Post by Jester7 »

Soo.....I've bought another bike. Which in itself isn't a problem but it may mean letting the 400 go (already, I've only owned it a month but have put about 800 miles on it so feel I have got the 'feel' of the bike).
I wanted another bike to use when my 400 is being worked on etc etc, maybe something a little older and scruffier for the winter months. But I have got a decent deal on a nice condition ZX7R and I think it might make the smaller bike feel a little, well, redundant. In fact, it's in at least as good nick and newer.
After last weeks long distance trips up and down the country on the ZXR4, it's not the greatest long-distance bike; a smidgeon too small and a bit too have-to-thrash-it on the motorway. Basically, all the things I'm finding not ideal will be addressed by the 750.

So there may be a 400 up for grabs soon, unless someone can give me a good reason to keep the little un. Although I've 'bonded' with the bike I haven't had it long enough to be sentimental about it, and however I like the idea of having two bikes (something for the weekend sir?), financial and physical practicality dictate I should really be a one-bike man. And, having had a ZXR750L before, I guess I'm just missing the size and power of the larger versions.

Any advice\pisstaking\offers welcome :smt001

Tax it for the 6 months of spring/summer
Insure it monthly so covered only over the summer months (so cheap to insure a 400)
Service it yourself to keep costs down

Keep it and use as a weekend thrash or even a track toy and it will always put a massive smile on your face, as you pass bigger bikes in the corners :smt003

I had a ZXR750 and a VFR750 at the same time as my ZXR400, and I still kept the 400 when it came time to sell a few (although the ZXR750 did blow up so that helped that decision).

You'll miss the easy knee-downs if you sell the 400, if that's your thing.
Who needs tyres when you've got knees!!

Hmm ahhh tricky one this. I thoroughly enjoyed riding it into work today (the higher screen has made it much better).
I do most of the servicing myself anyway and yes the tax and insurance are dirt cheap. And I knew someone would say 'trackday'! :excited

Lots of good points raised here advising to keep to counter my reasons to sell lol
I guess I should see how it goes. I can always put it up for sale if I find it's just sitting there doing nothing. And if I do, of course it'll be up on here for first refusals.

Shotgun buying your 400 when you want to sell it - I have monies. You can even come and visit it and ride it when you miss it.

I'm collecting Kawasakis now, by the way.

anyone got a KMX125 or 200 for sale ?

Wrong place to ask really... :smt002

No, if I was in your position, I'd probably get rid of it. If you don't do many trackdays or fancy a refurb project, just get rid of it... unless it's particularly amazing condition? Might be worth keeping then.
Otherwise, you can always buy another in either road or track form.
It's a good situation to sell too. You're not desperate for the cash(?), so you just keep it until the right price comes along.

Also, the money you get from selling it will fund a year or 2 of ZX7R riding... or the other way around!

That's the thing, it is in really good nick. But I don't want it sitting around not getting used. But yes it's a decent situation, luckily I'm not super desperate for the cash so no worries there.
Nice to see there's a decent amount of interest in it if I do pass it on.

OK. Having thought about it, and now after buying the missus a car therefore having less bunce laying around, I've decided (all going well with the new bike on Sat) that I'm selling it. Bloody shame and I'm annoyed to of put another owner on the logbook but needs must etc.
I've contacted the first potenital buyer in line but if nothing happens I'll take it from there.

Oh well. :smt010

But, hopefully a better matched bike for me soon :smt001

Hey, hopefully she goes to a good home. Like you said, no point having a great bike sitting around.
