New Kevlar Jeans

Post by Davw »

Not much use for the track but great for a trip to the shops in the summer!! Couldnt bring myself to shell out the silly money being asked for kevlar jeans at Hein Gericke but got myself a pair of there

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Richa-Kevlar-Deni ... 7C294%3A50

Advertised at £89.99 but best offer of £75 got me mine (which is still pretty painful) but realy please with em - and they came with removable knee armour.

If you go for them -get a waist size one size big. I got 34 long and I am a 33 waist/33 leg and they fit me perfect - so no need to raost alive in the summer on short runs anymore - or even worse take the chance and wear normal jeans

Just bought some jeans too!

I got a pair of Red Route Street jeans, they have the kevlar in and fit well, normal size for fitting!!

Paid £72 from Onyerbike in Aylesbury (bit of a distance for you - lol) Should have been £89.99 but they're doing 20% discount instore on them.

They're just like a normal pair of jeans, slightly heavier due to the extra layer of kevlar in the knee/ass areas! They have a pocket in the knee for placing extra protection pads, but didn't buy them!

Use them when riding to work, usually weekends when I don't have to be in shirt and tie, so don't have to parade round work looking like a power ranger (a fat one at that) in the full leathers! lol

Rob.
Been there, seen it, done it...... back to a 400 ;-)

Rather you than me.

I wouldn't trust them (to slide) an inch!

You don't see people wearing them on track, and chances are there's a good reason for that.
Who needs tyres when you've got knees!!

I was reading quite a big discussion on these in another forum recently. I think generally consensus was that they're not as good as leathers, or good quality textiles but better than nothing at a very low speed slide. Obviously they offer close to no impact protection so you could quite easily still bust a knee cap, hip etc.

I'm still tempted to pick up a pair though for those as you say local short trips, as they say though most accidents happen right by your home. To me though that's obvious as you have to go to and from your home every time you go anywhere so statistically you're riding/driving that part more often :smt001

With the knee protection (if the jean is tight enough to keep the armour in place) they're probably better than nothing. Then when you get to your location you can pop the armour out and put it in your jacket pocket. bag, under seat etc.

I got some red route ones off ebay in March, for about £45 odd.

I put my own knee armour from some old buffalo trousers and hip bits rubber thingies from my tuareg trousers in them and they seem pretty good for my mini commute to work daily.

I always have another pair of jeans / trousers on underneath though cos the sizing was very generous on my petite butt. Lol.
