Re: Do we want a portal?
no, we dont.
imo, theres nothing wrong with the site basics. a little refresh and maybe a new logo is all it needs i think.
its not broken so dont try and fix it.

Re: Do we want a portal?
What the fourm really needs is cleaning up, IE ditching the 100's of sections there currently is. I personaly cant be bothered to go to the help parts as theres to many.

Re: Do we want a portal?
i have been working my way through the god knows how many pages and deleting moving as needed, its gonna take a hell of a while to work through it, the faqs/having problems i need to do something with and ditch one, what i might do is make a new post for answered questions, move them from the having problems and faqs and delete any repeat questions. keeping 1 with answered problems locked and then delete as we go along.rene wrote:What the fourm really needs is cleaning up, IE ditching the 100's of sections there currently is. Re: Do we want a portal?
I thin the FAQ forum should be locked, put the best topics in there for example the 6pot conversion. Im sure there are some more like this lying around on the forums.

Re: Do we want a portal?
the whole point of the faqs was to highlight common questions which i was gonna add to the main site, it kinda got out of hand, i will try and moderate it a bit better.Scott221 wrote:I thin the FAQ forum should be locked, put the best topics in there for example the 6pot conversion. Re: Do we want a portal?
FAQs has now been deleted and all posts moved to the having problems forum, the "know your stuff" will be locked and informative/solved threads moved to there.

Re: Do we want a portal?
Absolutely not. It annoyed me when we had one before, and on other forums I've used.masterofinsanity wrote:have a look at this and tell me what you think?

My suggestions would be:
1) Keep the forum largely as is.
2) Hack around in the phpbb header.php file (or whatever it's called, it's been a while since I've played with a phpbb install) to get a consistent look and a useful set of menus/links with the main site. That way people have an easier way of linking back to the main site and using some of the static content that you've obviously spent so much time on.

Re: Do we want a portal?
my thoughts are that the basic site layout is good. i dont like the portal thing (not actually sure what it is) and i agree with scott and rene - there are too many similar sections that could possibly be grouped together. saying that thou, i dont envy you the job of trying to sort it out, cos there is ALOT of info and stuff to go thru.
I'm new to all this, so show no mercy!!!

Re: Do we want a portal?
Some of the sections i am probably to blame for being too many, but as you say theres a lot of information on the site and trying to sort it is a massive task, so sectioning some of it to make it easier to find was one way of doing it. Its ones of the reasons why i came up with the parts and tuning directory, rather than stuff getting lost in amongst each other in one forum, i thought best to divide it up a bit and make things easier to find.
No one missed the portal when it was gone last time so i guess no need for it.

I like the site how it is, easy to navigate, simple and to the point
