the o-rings round the "little filters" you mention tend to perish allowing fuel past even when the float valve is closed and functioning correctly, replace them.

Right i've been to 2 of my local halfords stores both of which are useless and didn't have any carb cleaner in stock and one numpty tried selling me some redex lol ' no mate i've got the carbs apart and need to blast jets out blah blah ' anyway can i use brake cleaner to the same effect? Thanks Daz

ye brake cleaner is basically the same thing, just a liquid that dries off and not a lubricant.im suprised halfords didnt have any.
i use brake cleaner just because i get it from work, compressed air is also good for blowing all the jets etc out if you have access to it.

Yeah you would have thought so but i live in lincolnshire which is well known for being a crap place to get stuff! compressor is my next tool to buy i think could have done with one ages ago.
