zxr kit pistons

zxr kit pistons
hi folks
i believe kawasaki made kit pistons at some point in the distant past for the zxr
has anyone got any info about these ie size ,hight etc or an old one kicking around
ill explain later

kawasaki have discontinued there 0.5 pistons and rings so i would say very little hope of getting the kit items from any where but private.
Id be very interested to see them tho, are you planning on getting some machined?

well as it happens yes .
first we are doing .5 and 1 mm oversize standard but if i can get the kit info bobs your uncle .
The first standard pistons will be ready within the month ,they are far superior to the standard as they are coated for low friction and there are other mods that have been developed ,i cant say to much more about them till i have them in my grubby little hands when done ill post more about them but if it stirs some intrest i have already done the Honda RC 30 pistons (which honda have discontinued )and i have even had a set go back to Japan to the head of honda motorcycle for his own Rc .They make the other zxr pistons that are available look and perform like heavy old slugs .
So if anyone can help with the kit measurements (pin to crown hight) etc it would be the nuts
and who ever can do it ill do a set of pistons and rings at cost . This doesnt make much money for me but what it does do is keep some of these bikes running
If this works there should be a pic of the Rc pistons

Ok here goes, the main difference is in the skirts of the pistons & the valve reliefs in the crown. I have attached a few photos that should show the differences.
Compression height is the same but the valve reliefs in the crown are 0.2mm shallower & peak of ridge between the valves is 0.4mm higher. Cannot tell you how much the crown shape increases compression as I have not yet cc'd these pistons. Weight of the standard piston is 101.4g the kit piston is 103.4g.

Interested in knowing more about the pistons, also what are you doing about the head gasket, are any kit ones still available? as they do not protrude into the chamber like the std ones.

Thanks for the help so far,
the kit piston as i thought would be no trouble but we will have to have one measured as these things need to be exact (they wouldnt go on anyones measurements but their own )
i say its no trouble but it is very involved as you can imagine ill give the full run down on the engineers doing the work in a week or so, but suffice to say they are probably one of the best in their game and manufacture for most if not all of the factory teams (no the factories dont make their own pistons they are all out sourced to specialised engineers ) as the first of the standard pistons have just been made , ill get some photos when they have their coating on shortly
The rings are top notch as well so no more worrying about lack of piston kits ,which is the problem i had for the RC30 no more pistons at honda which was a big problem as you can imagine, so after much grovelling and a blubbing they said they would do it (i caught the boss on a good day ) and im luck to be on good standing with this lot as little fish like me and you never get in there .The only problem is if one of the big companies ie Honda etc are haveing stuff done i have to wait

Interesting. One of the problems with using the currently available +1mm pistons is their extra weight so i'm surprised the genuin kit pistons are heavier than standard, that may explain why my tuners used the standard oversize +.5mm pistons whilst they were available. The other problem is the quality, specifically the rings. So, if you can come up with +1mm (and +.5mm) pistons of high quality and no heavier than standard then there could well be a good market for them

well things are moving on and you will all be pleased to know
there is a new kit piston on its way from Australia as we speak ,mike has posted me one ,he knows the company im dealing with and believe me they are as good as you will get so it wont be long before they are done.As for the rings they are of the same standard as the pistons .As for the weight of the pistons ill have an answer for you soon but if the RC pistons were anything to go buy the bigger bore pistons were kept at the same weight as the smaller bore ones which were lighter than standard to relieve the crank from undue stress

I'm interested in a couple 1mm sets if it comes to fruition. I was looking into have 2mm pistons made as the org I race with allows us to go to 450cc. The beet kit is 3mm and the pistons are nearly as light as the stockers but the one racer that built one here had cylinder head sealing issues.
