zzr600 in a zxr400 frame

Post by ritchie »

Hi, I was looking into the options of a 600 engine conversion. I have read that the zx6r engine G1 etc has completely different mounts so theres a lot of work fitting mountings. I also read somewhere that the zzr600 has the same mountings and fits straight in but I can't see it being that simple. Does anyone know for sure what the case is and what is required if it isnt a straight fit. Thanks for replies in advance :smt001

Try a search on the site - there are loads of previous posts on this - most recently by Zimm (iirc) - my own personal favourite is the early Fireblade engine into a zxr 400 - I have a frame here and if I can pick up an old engine cheap I might go for it - needs the rear frame cut and welded but it has been done

Yep - but he then fixed that with additional bracing.

As I've said before on these threads:

I don't see the point in all that work and cost to put a 600 engine in a 400? You can get the same power gain with a rebore and a bit of work...

If you're going to do it, then you may as well do it properly and put a 750 or 1000 in! Or a V8. :smt004

so your telling me you can get 110+ bhp from a zxr400 ?
and 750 is extra weight. and im sure the 600's have a verry close power to weight ratio to a 750

I'd disagree about the extra weight and size.

That might be true of older bikes, but there's no way something like a CBR1000 engine is bigger or heavier than a late 90s 600. Dimensionally the new thousands make the ZXR400 look bigger!

yep modern engines are smaller, and lighter.. my 1995 zx6r engine is huge and very heavy in comparison... however.. having ridden my 600 engined beastie way back when it was running.. I dont think the zxr400 chassis is up to much more in terms of power (mine was putting out 115bhp).. not that it felt like it would snap.. just that its a compact, short bike with a short swingarm, designed to put down 60bhp through a (relatively) skinny rear tyre.. cue wheelies and\or wheelspin.

fun though :)

but really, if you want 600 power in a zxr400.. buy a zx6r B1h.. cos thats basically what it is. (and it'll stop and go round corners without scaring the sh** outta you)
