Hi all,

Ive searched the forum and read a few threads regarding this "Motrax Converter". I'm pretty sure my H1 89 ZXR has one on the back of the clocks so i just want to clarify what people think of accuracy etc on these things, i read they mess with your miles reading also?

If anyone can shed some light on the workings of the whole thing and reccomendations etc, would be most appreciated!

are you sure its a kmh-mph converter and not a de-restrictor?
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

strictly speaking, a kmh to mph converter would do that :smt002

Got any pics of the bit at the back? They tend to be anodised blue. As far as accuracy goes i think the clock remains just as accurate as without it.

i was thinking he may be getting confused with a mmax box and one of those inline speed adjuster thingymawotsitsnames

Ive had one on my ***warning swear word ahead***** cbr400rr, yep as above they tend be anodized blue as mine was. they do 'mess' with your clocks as such people re referring to the point that the mileage reading increases at a slower rate thus when sold the mileage is not true and should be higher (easily solved by a photo when installed/adversly this is easily faked).
also quoted as above dependent on model of bike can de-restrict the bike....only on speed o restricted types tho. funnily enough i stumbled onto mine at the car wreckers and pocketed it.

workings of one, there just reducing cogs on a very small scale. i found it great as sticker thingy was rubbish in dark, cheaper than replacement clocks too (about £30 new if i recall)

Bikes at the mechs getting its regulator rectifier replaced and sump plug (Reg Rec had melted vsad and sump plug was pissing on the mechs shoes biggrin ), so i cant get a pic. However i do know that yes it is adonised blue and it is connected to the top of the speedo cable. Im 100% sure its a converter, i just want to be re-assured that obviously the standard readings i have on my clock are KMH all the way to 180 (i think), so when it says im doing 40 KMH am i do 40mph or can these converters be abit... off? Just curious as to know if people have had any problems with them or not?

I would say the accuracy should be the same as the clocks +- accuracy - they are only changing the ratio not the mechanics.

On that note - the odometer is run on mechanics so even changing the ratio of the cables turns doesn't change this - the miles clocked up will not correspond to what you have done - these should still be KM's so for every 5 miles travelled it will show 8 been done, any one care to test ?

your paying a mech to change reg/rec? they are a pretty easy thing to change and check yourself, dont get me wrong but dont let the mech tell you "oh yes that took an hour to change and check". off with the seat, unbolt, put new in, multimeter on battery 12.2-12.3-4, start bike, rev to 3000rpm,5000rpm,7000rpm and should not exceed 12.8 ish. 15min job tops.
check your starter solenoid also as the 3 parts all work in conjunction one will wreck the others. found reason why it melted?

i dont have the meter to do it, and i didnt know that it was the reg rec, he found that out. i thought it was the alternator, so if id done it i would of spent alot more money. Plus i hate electrics.

Anyone know if the L model sump fits the H model?

just noticed the i o w, im on the middle road, where abouts are you ?
think there was a bad accident on the milly road today aswell, police blocked it off this afternoon.

this makes 3 of us down these ways....DougieDoug is here also, hook up for a ride and/or perhaps the rumored zxrworld ride out gathering planned for later this year?
