Is to much choice a good thing or not?

Post by jake »

Just a thought with all the categorys and sub-categorys at present on the forum. Its great that everything is in order and filed.... but for me personally, just to much.
I only ever use the 'new posts'. It would take for ever to go through each bit. There must be 60 or 70 categorys! Not so much a problem if your only reading then replying( new posts). But if you want to post, it can be a bit of a pain.
I think it would be better to have say 5 or 6 categorys with a few subs in each., no more. That i think would encourage more posts, more activity, easier to navigate.
Same with the new classifieds bit. I like the idea of the feedback, but because they dont now come up on 'new posts' i dont see them. 'Bikes for sale', 'parts for sale' and 'wanted' is simple and covers everything.
Im not moaning like :smt003 is is just me?

nice to have some feedback mate cheers, people don't reply to ideas or posts regarding the forum so i do what i think is good, unless people tell me otherwise. If anyone has any ideas for the forum there is a suggestions section.

re the information threads they were split up to make it easier to find answers, yes there are a lot of sections but personally i think its cleaned the forum up 100 times better.

One thing I find annoying is the lack of a "new posts button" when you are looking at a thread and have posted to it and want to go back to the new posts page. The only way back is via the index page or to use the back button on your browser but in both cases it means going via a page you don't need to view again. Even more annoying if I have gone to a new post via a link in an email notification...............and

Especially annoying when I'm using my phone to view the site and every extra page downloaded costs

I use the view new posts button all the time save a lot of time.

I should really get out more I spend far too much time on here :pmsl :pmsl

I don't use most of the sections ever. It's not a problem for me, because they're there if I ever do need them and I'm sure other people use them...

What I have seen on another forum is they have a function where you can combine several sections and view them as one, i.e. you select the forums sections you want to see and then can view them all at the same time in a 'My Forum' section. I absolutely LOVE this feature now!

I'll upload a screenshot...

I don't know if it's possible on here, but it may well be worth looking into?

http://www.therevcounter.com

It makes things very easy from a user side, because if you need to check more specific sections they're all still there to browse as normal.
