New zxr, new forum for when i drop it!

Post by hudders »

Hello all,

I have just bought a P reg zxr 400 22000 miles on it with a few extras, braided hoses, ART exhaust (never heard of ART dunno if any good power wise) k and n filter (but its 33bhp restricted so a k/n probs not all that much use!)

I will take some snaps when i get some sun and time off work. This is an upgrade from me RS125 extrema ... :excited

Done lots of posting on 125ccsportsbikes for that long project, so I know how useful forums are and you guys come rated for this bike, so expect lots of dumb questions as I fumble around with her... :smt019

first one is..... What does a mechanic mean when he says "slight misting from right hand engine casing"? (please be small it was a note on the last servvice that i dint see)

Hi John,

Slight misting means he has seen a fine mist of oil around the casing - which in turn means that casing gasket has a slight weap. My pulsar cover (Right side in front of clutch) does the same thing as I don't silicone the rubber stopper or the lower mounting bolts which your meant to. Bike does't drip oil and I can live with giving a wipe down every now and again :smt002

So going by his report - it's the same thing as mine. If your being left with oil on the ground or it's gathering in the cowl then address the problem otherwise it's your choice to leave as is or seal it up.

No probs using a K&N filter restricted , is it a full system or just an end can ?

Welcome to the site & enjoy both :smt001

MM!

Thanks, thats a relief. bit of silicone on the crank case seam then thats better than me dads prognosis - b"low by from the worn pistons which is creating positie pressure in the case it needs a rerbuild you bought a duck" Dads eh.

Its an end can only, looks like its been doctored to fit right. looked at some reviews, looks like they are el cheapo. sounds nice tho.

Give it a degrease 1st and monitor how quickly it comes back - I have washed mine down now and doing the same thing, so far still clean as a whistle so i might have been washing off 20yrs worth :smt005

If it ain't broke don't give it a poke as sure as fook you'll create some other task in the process ! shocking

It's got to be neigh on impossible to get excessive pressure build up as the casings have a breather at the back going into your airbox - if it is getting bad then you will have gunge sitting in your airbox - not to be confussed with misting cause your gunning the bike.

A blown base gasket can cause the same effect but the mechanic did specifically say right side casing.
