Hi all

Post by Redwarf »

Hi to all on the site.

I own a ZXR400 L model, 2002MY, and have had it for nearly a year. It is my 1st bike and I love it, it goes well, handles well and looks lovely. It has done 30,000miles and I am on it all the time.
I have had the cam chain replaced and serviced it regularly. I am about to do the spark plugs and air filter, two tyres, front and rear pads, valve clearances, and possibly a rear can upgrade. I am looking to go for a K and N filter if I can get hold of one.

I am hoping to meet up with members on here if you do any meets at all. I am in Swindon. I have had a look at your forums and find the site very useful for information.

Hope to chat to people soon.

Regards

Hi and welcome,

Nice to see someone doing their own spannering. Loads of help and advice on here if you hit a snag. I would recommend balancing the carbs too, this bike does seem to have carbs which go out of balance and getting them spot on really makes a big difference. Easy job to do and the outlay on gauges is well repaid.

Are you doing the valve clearances yourself? Something I've not felt confident enough to tackle and one of the few jobs I'd entrust to a mechanic to do it for me.

Which reminds me, new thread coming on......

Thanks for all your replies.

I have attached some pics. Hope you all like them. As for the valve clearances, I am a mechanic and was thinking about doing them myself, looked at the last time they were done and not due yet anyway. I would entrust it to a bike mechanic though as it will take them half the time to do them than it will me, and they will have all the tools and shims accessible. Will definitely look into doing the carbs though as will have tank off anyway to do plugs and air filter. Do you know where I can get a K&N panel filter for it and if they are worth having? Also any recommendations for rear cans?

Catch you all soon, enjoy the pics.

Regards

Welcome. It might be worth keeping an eye out for some UK headlights too - mine was an Italian import and came with the single square headlight. Took about 3 MOT's to realise the lights dipped incorrectly...
