Putting 'BIKER' On The Census As Your Religion

Post by Jamz »

It's coming around again soon - the Gubbinment will be sending you a load of questions at great expense to the taxpayers so that... umm... they know more stuff about us?

Image

Whatever.

The important thing this time around is that when they ask me what religion I am, I am going to say it loud and proud that I am A Biker.

The road is my God, and the pathway there, too.

When I ride my bike it is a spiritual experience. It's a comfort to me when I feel lost or down.

Riding 'in the zone' is like a form of meditation. It's Zanshin - total awareness - as I try to see my surroundings before they happen, listening to every roar and click from my bike and trying my best to make sure as I execute my religion that nobody else is adversely affected by it.

We even have Priests - the mechanics who will fix up our trusty steeds and get us back on track.

A lot of us even just ride on Sundays! And we have those living Gods amongst us:

Image

And think of the benefits or getting our religion recognised!

Would a petrol station be allowed to force us to remove our helmet if it's religious clothing?

Could they continue forcing us to pay such high tax on petrol - essentially taxing our religion?

It is my form of worship. Being a Biker means I enjoy life, and get more out of it because of my choices.

We're family out there - nodding a greeting as we pass total strangers simply because they're on a bike. Sure, there are different faction within the Biking religion - the Sportbikers have some hostility towards Harley Davidson riders, and everyone dislikes Scooter riders. Motard riders are just thugs. We're not going to go to war over it, though, and many of us treat everyone under the Biker banner equally, as it's something that unifies us all.

Image

If you ride a bike, I bet you've put more effort into that than you have the made-up-deity, war-causing, only-when-it-suits-you religion that someone decided they'd choose for you before you were out of nappies!

It's got to be done!

It is the time to show the World what we REALLY believe in!

Just put that single word as your religion: Biker.
Who needs tyres when you've got knees!!

My very lovely wife has just started her training and will be working as a Census enumerator for the 2011 census that means that she will be knocking on doors and help with the whole form filling in thing if need be. Also she has to check out commercial properties and fill out form and information about them.

I'll ask if putting biker as a religion is accecptable or allowed

And you do know that this year for the first time you'll be able to do the whole thing online

it's gotta be allowed, I heard last time that Jedi was so common it's become an offical religion!

there was a thing in MCN last year, some one wrote in with the 10 Commandments of biking. Number one was something like...

1) Thoul shalt always endevour to get thy knee down.

Now on a serious note, I'm a Christian. By that I mean I believe in Christ, and not neccessarily church. For example I don't subscribe to "porn is evil". And I believe that Bill Hicks was a prophet. And to me, and many others, one way of worshiping your chosen deity is to enjoy and make the most of the gift of life they have given you. I mainly accomplish that through a) sex (hands up who has worshiped during sex... "oh GOD yes!" :smt006 ) b) exercising my adrenal gland through thrashing the poop out of my ZXR! c) exploring the world in which we live... at a ton-up wherever possible!

So in short, just because you're a Christian don't be afraid to put down 'Biker' as your religion. It's just a way of being a christian. Like Catholisism (worshiping money, the pope, and massive families [see Monty Python...]), Judaism (an unaacoutable fear of bacon), and Quakers (being made into Porridge when you die).

Roll on the census and equal rights for bikers!
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).
