Hello

Post by monty0443 »

I know this deosnt really fit in a ZXR forum, but anyway...

Hello.. :smt006

Just wanted to introduce myself, Just got a Gpz400r 1986 I believe a grey import (first bike)... It was sold as a bit of a duff horse that needs flogging to make it work, Its currently being stripped down and poked at with a stick. Current problems I've encountered are Rocker gasket seal damaged (attempting to locate a new one no real joy), W alloy frame piece from front of bike which helps locate the radiator is split at the screw joint (again no joy yet finding a new piece) Fame is being resprayed as best as possible in spare time.. All usual parts attempting to give a good spray to clean up rust and reproof for Northern Irelands lovely sunny weather.. So far have fittend a Knn air filter, fuel filter, changed all oils, resprayed a new radiator and fan and attempting to look at the wiring loom and repair all the mangled parcel/masking tape problems..
Will start to post a few pics of the current state of bike and progress.
But if anyone here has ever owned one and would like to pass on any snippets of wisdom i would greatly appreciate it.. Also thanks Cargo for your advice..

Regards
Monty

Hi Monty,

Had the 600R and you can plop one of those or the GPx600 motor into your 400 - all engines are same mounting dimensions.
400 is nice with the alloy frame though, the 600 only had one model which I think was a A5a with one the rest were steel beams.

The 400 is still a cult bike out here and I should be able to source anything your looking for including some trick stuff like carbs ( CR & FCR) , exhausts - my gut says 600 cams would plop on in and give it a boost too.

Get a speed convertor for your clocks so they now read MPH and that way you will lift the speed restriction on it.

I get tempted to buy one as they do them in the same colour as my old 600.

ZXR400H front ends go on - dont know whats involved but have seen plenty done and the USDs will walk all over the OEM wibbly wobbly RWU with ant-dives plus you'll bin those crap calipers !

I always like the air suspension but if you change the front forks get a modern rear shock with remote res' or piggyback if it can fit in.

If you could find a junked ZL400 that motor will give you better torque building a hybrid out of it :smt003

I'll post a pic or two if I find on my HDD
Nothing worse than having an H and not being able to scratch it !
