?@#! LED Indicators!

Post by CaNsA »

Right then, bought a set of LED indicators from ebay.

Fitted them using the stock flasher relay.
Switch to the left - All on solid.
Switch to the right - All off solid.

Got a LED flasher relay from halfrauds (fkin 20quid)
Switch to the left - All flash fat the correct speed.
Switch to the right - All flash at the correct speed.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Don't quote me on this but I have a sneaking feeling that the flasher circuit depends on the resistance of the bulbs to regulate the flashing speed - something to do with the charging time of the capacitor in the circuit which operates the solenoid. Hence why the flasher timing goes out if a bulb blows. So first off - yes, you were right that you needed to alter the flasher circuit to match the new LED lamps.

Presume you had no problem with the indicators before changing to LEDs? If so we can eliminate the switch. I'd be thinking about the switch being faulty, or maybe you've introduced a short somewhere during installation. Maybe check for this?

TBH I tend not to f*ck with the electrics unless I need to. You always end up with a PITA - like this :smt010 Presume the flasher relay only connects one way? Maybe connected it wrong?

i fitted some to my gpz. Two pairs of micro LED indicators (I think about £30 per pair, but they're the size of your thumb nail with 6 led's each!) and an led relay, all from bike it. Relay about £5. Second relay due to short circuit, £5.

Sound like a simple wiring error. Unplug the lot, and start from scratch. you got a wiring diagram handy?

ooh ooh ooh, some led relays are funny, just remembered, so i'd f*** off the halford stuff, and get the bikeit one, since you can match it to the bike. should be the same as my gpz. That said, mine do go 100%, 10%, 100%, 10%, but I figure it's better that way. I just picked a copy of the one on my bike, the 2 pin, though the block has 3... figured since it was working before, stick with it.

try these:

relay I use, wreled01, but maybe try the 02 (3 pin) type.
I do 700 miles a week in all weathers including snow, that's roughly 35,000 miles a year, and some weekend warrior biker has the nerve to get out of his Audi at work to tell me to I was riding far too fast in the wet (over taking at 50... fast eh?).
