Cam Chain
Had a Z250 in bout 1980 an the cam chain ate rite thru the the engine was this a fault at the screwtenerin at Kawasaki when the bike was un-paked an fer got to take a lil bolt out 2activate the tenshioner or was it my fault as me poor old bike must av only done bout 5grand miles ???... is this guner happen 2me well loved ZXR400 tel me now so can put it rite av had it since 2002 an just done bout 5an a half grand miles an seems bitt of a rattle goin on down there or am i just paranoid lol xxx pl let me kno xxx Pardoe1976 xxx

ZXR's are generally noisy, one rattle comes from the clutch which is normal, that usually goes a bit quieter if you pull the lever in. Top end is generally noisy too. If your not sure get a dealer to check for you, better safe than sorry.
You can check yourself by looking at how far the tensioner has extended, down by the pickup coil. It could either be a worn cam chain guide or the chain has stretched.
