Hi all,

I recently slipped on a diesel spill and chucked the bike down the road, first off it was just indicators, clutch lever and a wing mirror. Then when i stood the bike on its stand and looked extensively, i realised the generator cover had basicly smashed under the impact! ive replaced genny cover but not tried running yet, as i noticed when i was taking off the old cover, the flywheel (or what i believe from looking at pictures in my manual) has grinding marks around the edges, i imagine the edge of the flywheel only sits at the inside genny cover and so when it smashed it ground itself on the road. My concern is, it doesnt look to bad. i mean, i should've taken a picture of the damage and posted it here so you guys could see what i mean but i forgot :S None the less its only a small amount of grinding all round the edge of the flywheel and im wondering if its ok to try running it as it is or if its gonna do more harm!? any advice? i dont have a flywheel puller and im not really that encouraged to buy one and try my hand at replacing it as i have no idea what im doing with pulling it out and putting it back in in the right position etc, as i dont have the tools for the job, (not exactly cheap!)

I think you will be ok, its just a magnet at the end of the day. However if it had been cracked in the accident then id err on the side of caution and replace it.

well, i'll clean all the metal shavings out of it and see how it goes, dr pepper i guess, whats the worst that could happen? no, really.. what is the worst that could happen, anyone? any advice for what to use to clean the shavings out? didnt wanna use brake cleaner

brake cleaner would be excellent....................use a small bit rag to stop any metal getting into the rest of the engine and just use the brake cleaner to rinse the bits out.....................................................
