Whats the ZXR 250 like?
Looks super light and small.
Also does anyone know who if anyone is importing new 400cc bikes these days?
I read about a company that specialises in them for the Uk market; does all the baby ninjas and gixxers.
Can't remember the name tho.

Bat Motorcycles? Not sure if they do the importing or not but they are import specialists, i had to goto them to get parts for my XJR400.

Which is odd because there's plenty of them in the USA.masterofinsanity wrote:zxr250 looks like the 400, always fancied one meself but they are far and few between.

The name seems familiar but their website makes no mention of them importing ..RobB wrote:Bat Motorcycles? Not sure if they do the importing or not but they are import specialists, i had to goto them to get parts for my XJR400.

Re: Whats the ZXR 250 like?
They're fun.
It is noticably lighter than the 400 in regards to handling around town, through tight corners and general pushing it around in your drive way (the cbr250rr felt much lighter again). definatley nicer to commute on, though its a bit buzzy on the motorway.
The tank is narrower and your legs are a little more parellel to eachother when gripped against it, which makes it more comfortable to ride.
I never really took mine on good rides as it always felt like it was going to fall apart. But some of the ones I rode gave Kawasaki a good reputation.
I hear people manage to get 75,000miles out of them. I'm not sure how, that sounds like crap to be hounest, but that's what a dealer told me. I also hear you can get to see the pistions if you rev it over the red line of 19-20 thousand rpm.
Still, unless I had 90+ degree corners everywhere I wouldn't take one over a 400. It doesn't feel as healthy when coming out of your average corner, as I'm sure a 400 does when compared to a 600, 636 or 650 twin (not that I'd know). It flicked about much easier and made you feel like Valintino Rossi untill the corner ended and its lack of power became aparent. It's one of those bikes that makes you jelous or inferior to the 400 and 600 riders because there's just not enough go to hold your head up.
Overall, a great first bike because it's confidence inspiriaing. I felt like such cocky Camel when riding it, I never bought riding pants or wore boots because it felt so easy to control. admitidly that wasn't smart. I shelled out when I got the 400 as it felt like a beast that I might not be able to control in any situation (but then it needs new tires pads and discs. Guess who got ripped off!).

Re: Whats the ZXR 250 like?
pritty much agree with that. To make the most of it you need really really sharp slow bends as it just hasent got the go out of the bends. Most people will say although good bikes the 400 is the better option (same with the cbr's)
still if i was to find one cheap im sure id use and abuse it for a while!
finaly the crown and glory they sound like a F1 car with system on them lol

if you like high revs go for an FZR250, they top out at 21K rpm.

Re: Whats the ZXR 250 like?
I have to say, I am a huge fan of Yamaha.
Never owned one, never ridden one.
That said, you only have to look at the beautiful simplicity of their design and the mouthwatering finish on their machines to be a fan.
Went into a Yam dealership in Coventry not long back and was blown away by the sheer asthetic buzz of the R1 and Mt01; real class.
Just look at the quality of that top yoke and the clip ons ..
And that paint thats probably 15 years old..

Re: Whats the ZXR 250 like?
most jap bikes nowadays are finshed really well. Build quility is awsome just a shame that there getting like cars were everything has to be set up by computers killing off self serviceing thing that i love about bikes

Re: Whats the ZXR 250 like?
I hear kawasaki are going downhill with thier build quality on newer bikes. There was a guy on mcn ninjas who bought a brand new ZZR1400, brake disks needed replacing a few weeks after he got them because they were rusted to f*** and the pads welded themselves to the rotor. Admittedly he had ridden it early this year when the roads were salty as boneville, but he swears he washed the bike thoroughly after the ride and it was only the rotors that were affected, nothing else.
