engine transplant
hey guys i was wondering whether i could call upon the forums members infinite wisdom and hopefully somoeone that has done an engine transplant before for a bit of advise.
my engine has kicked it and so now i want to put a 600 engine in as i have seen a lot of people have done. i was wondering how easy it was to chuck a 600 or 636 in and which was the best one to get. do you have to do a lot of mods to make it fit properly etc?
what a dilema

Re: engine transplant
i think the zx6r engine is the easiest to do, seems to have been a popular transplant.
Don't forget people there is more to the zxr400 than this forum... check out www.zxrworld.co.uk also.

Re: engine transplant
there's been a couple of people on here have done it. if you do a search you ought to be able to pick up their usernames and send them a pm with any questions if they are still around.
one chap was i think called ian/iain knight. also posted on http://www.pbmagforum.com (the bike was featured in performance bikes) again there's a thread about it on there.

Re: engine transplant
AMS told me that they will be making mounting kits for the zxr some point this year, he also told me this
only help i can give is use the std ns mount with a 1/8 spacer ,
use a peace of steel angle on osf mount ,cut the rest off & get new ones welded on
due to running out of room/money i've had to put off my conversion for another year

Re: engine transplant
if its of any interest, ive just blown up the engine in my zx6r powered L1... i might be persuaded to part with it for the right offer.
bike is all together, painted kwak green, looks stock, V loud, 12 months MOT.
made a loud clank pffffft, CLANK CLANK CLANK IM DEAD NOW YOU F***** type noise at 130
new engine would be 300ish quid, it was a bigbored F model engine, i think a G would bolt straight in but unsure on the loom.

Re: engine transplant
i didnt fit it myself, but can take pics of the engine mounts and measure it up for you.. or you can come take measurements yourself if you you want..
it does require all 4 engine mounts to be fabricated though so it isnt exactly "bolt in"

did you get a garage to do the work for you then? if so who?
also what sort of money would you be after to part with her? i've been fancying a new bike for a while now and like i said before havent got time to do it myself. Plus i've just been given a zzr250 to build up for a friend

Re: engine transplant
sorry man, i bought the bike off ebay as a ratty runner last year, previous owner (professional engineer and drag/sprint racer) had modified the frame and bolted in the engine, then thrown it together with all the stock bits off the donor bike, as he had run out of time/money due to a house purchase.. consequently the whole thing needed pulling apart and re-doing, new forks, shock, wiring tidied up etc ...
thinking about keeping it now as a local engineer reckons he can fix the ported head and supply a piston etc for less than a stock motor would cost..
110 bhp zxr ? hoh yeh ... muahahaha

this is quite an old pic, more at http://socrates.is-a-geek.net/bikes/Bikes/zxr600
