PUNCTURE!!!! ARGGH!!

Post by Renegade »

such an annoying day.

was out untill 3:30am last night

got up at half 8 to go do the theory

and just before i got there somethin went in my tyre and punctured it lol

pushed it the rest of the way to the test centre..

this is what was stuck in it - dno what it is....

Image

anyway - went in to do the theory and passed it

come back out and phoned the AA to come fix it, sat there waiting for 20 mins

Image

the aa came and put some rubber bung in it and temproarily fixed it (only good for 200 mile at 40mph)

so then i rode all the way to the bike shop and got some new tyres fitted, front and back BT014's for 200 quid.

they needed doin anyway - not much tread left in em.

tyre off

new ones on

and a nice big dent in the bank account lol

those tyres had years left in them by my standards man. £200 quid new and by the time they've done the distance you can't give them away. Must be one of the top ten depreciaters in the world.

Look carefully at the middle of the tyre on that 2nd photo and you will see the wear indicator, its well illegal.

bad luck that. last time i was across the pond i was racin back to get the boat for 11 pm. the thought of a puncture and what the hell do i do if it happens crossed my mind and i started to pray as i was on my own. the praying worked thankfully. when i got back a had "tire milk" put into the tyres. according to the guy fitted it, you can shoot the tyre with a 9mm bullet and it wont go down. i'm not goin to try it though. he said it was developed by the american military and he fits it to a lot of bikes over here includin the vespa club in belfast and a lot of lorries as well. he also claims it adds 25% to the life of the tyres and you never have to check pressures again and all that for £10 for both tyres, well worth it

Surely that's a leeeeeetle bit of exageration?

I'm just about prepared to accept it could survive a 9mm bullet (although the wheel wouldn't, and the exit hole would be a bigger concern), but I don't see any reason at all why it should give the actual tyre longer life?

The only way you can change that is by using different tyre pressures, which wouldn't be affected at all by that stuff.

I've also heard that some garages will charge and hour labour for scraping the old crap off your wheels before fitting a new tyre, and also some sever issues with wheel balance!

That aside, it does seem great for an emergency repair. I wouldn't use it as a preventative, though.

which is exactly why I dont want to put any form of goo inside my tyre! Those puncture repair kits are so easy to use and you dont need to clean up your wheel afterwards. And you dont need to use it unless you actually get a puncture. Which is why I always keep one under my seat and it only takes about 5 -10 mins to plug a tyre.

But hey - just my opinion!

yea thats similar how my car works i aint got a spare tire so i have to put this stiff in it inflates the tyre and blocks the puncture at the same time. however you can only do about 50 miles at 50 miles an hour before you need to change it. its to get you to the garage i think.
