fuel pump flow rate

right the other day my fuel pump decided to give up. it didnt have enough grunt to pump the fuel over about 4000 revs. i replaced it with a second hand pump and now the bike runs. the problem however is that this second pump is also on its way out and doesnt pump above 8000 revs. i phoned up kawasaki and they quoted me £108 for a new pump which is a bit on the pricey side, so i was wondering if anyone knew the flow rate of the pump so i can get a non kawasaki one, or if i could use a different pump to the same effect.

I imagine the flow rate varies with engine speed, becuase of the different amounts of fuel used at differnt RPM. That is a tad pricey tho aint it!

yeah i kinda guessed that but what i was wondering was whether there were any specifications for the pump. ie maximum and minimum flow rate. yeah little bit pricey.

having just read the manual, the pump only operates intermittenly, pumping when there is low pressure on the outlet side, and shutting off when the pressure reaches a certain level. So from that I would assume that the pump is hardly running much at idle but batting around quite merriley at large throttle openings. The manual doesn't mention flow rate, but does give a pressure at which the pump must shut off.

oh nice one mate, i have bought another second hand one, lets just hope this one can pump well enough so i can get my top end revs back
