2002 zxr400 l9, little advice needed :)

Post by kpeter20 »

Hi all

Just got myself a 2002 zxr400 l9 to replace the mito ready for when i pass my test in the next few weeks, one thing i have noticed as the bike was dropped off is that when stationary and idling I can pop into 1st from neutral and it will go from 1st into neutral but it wont pop into 2nd when standing still.

Is this normal.....ie it will pop into 2nd as soon as the bike is rolling or is it something that is a problem??

Any advice would be great as at the moment I have the honour of living next door to a copper who knows i only have a cbt.......so if i take it for a quick spin off the drive he would probably pistol whip me or something.

yeh, you cant get 2nd at a standstill, but you can get second if you lever the back wheel off the ground so the bike's on the stand and the front wheel and spin the rear wheel with your foot while grabbing 2nd .. its a pain but possible..

should bumpstart in 1st though, just jump on the seat real hard ! lol

if you are lucky, out of 7 zxr's ive had 2 that would let you do that, its a centrifugally operated bearing clutch in the gearbox, so if its working correctly it needs a fair bit of "spin" to release it.

you can take them out and throw them away with no ill effect, but its a case of splitting the cases to do it.
