Oil cooler

Post by gloves86 »

Right...the nut shaped thing on the bottom left (as you're sat on the bike) of the oil cooler has cracked in 2 places. Basically, it was absolutely pissing oil everywhere before I drained it.

It looks like it was damaged in the past (the nut that is) and was somehow bodged not to leak. I put new manifold gaskets in and took the radiator off it's mounts to give myself a bit more room - I'm guessing moving the oil cooler re-opened the crack nut thing again! Anyway, H1 oil coolers seem quite hard to come by, and from what I can gather everything H2 onwards is different.

My questions are:

1. Will anything other than an H1 oil cooler fit? (it can be a different bike entirely as long as it fits and works ok).

2. Failing me being able to find a new or 2nd hand oil cooler (cradley don't sell them which is helpful) is it ok to take the oil cooler off completely and seal the block back up? I don't ride the bike in towns or built up areas very much at all.

3. If it is ok to take the oil cooler off, what's the best way of sealing the block? I have seen some people have made little blanking plates...these look ideal, but I don't really have the facilities to hand to get these made. Is there any way one of you kind chaps could knock a couple up for me?? I'd be more than happy to pay of course :smt003

Sorry for the mega post, but I'm about at my wit's end with the bike! It's amazing when I actually get to ride it, but lately that has been less and less. Please help!!! :smt010

yes you can blank it off, I'm sure zimm has done this before and had no problems with the bike.
These things are sent to try us!!
