Re: wtf's going on here then???
you could never put some low power engine into somthing like 4x4 due to the type of work it will be doing. We used to have a 3.2 v6 vauxhall frontera what we pulled horse boxs, hay ect about with and was brilliant
Once you've onwed one you realise how usfull they are to have around even if you dont use them properly all the time

Thats it thoe they know they will be well off in an accident so bugger everyone else an i for one wont moan at who has the right of way. an thats another point you have hit on there THEY CANT EVEN SEE PAST THE STEERING WHEEL
so when you get next to em to give em a piece of your mind all you see is a pair of hands supporting a massive stering wheel.

Re: wtf's going on here then???
mums have 4x4's becuase they are high up and thier children are safe in an accident. You cant blame them for that really. But i think what they have in america where a large school bus picks everyone up is a good idea. Just one vehicle and its highup so its safe.

Re: wtf's going on here then???
I would like to see 4x4 tax raised to £800 per anum, that should weed out the men from the boys. As long as farmers can continue to register them as commercial vehicles in a lower bracket. Many farmers don't even have a 4x4 though, there is little use for them on a modern farm.
The best way to tax non essential journeys is where it hurts most - fuel. I don't want to see the days when petrol is £1.50 a Litre but I know it would put me off some non essential journeys. While I still walk as much as possible I do enjoy an aimless ride / drive sometimes.
The bit about banning certain cars from areas will not catch on, there was some similar hype about it stemmed from that uppstart welsh constable (brunstrome?) when he went to the lakes and winged about the amount of bikes.
Steps have been taken to remove the advantage of the 4x4 over other vehicles in crashes though - bull bars have been banned for years now.
If they ever try to tax me per mile I will stripping whatever hardware is needed from my bike and converting it to run on carbs if I have to, that is a step too far, yet would help combat the school run.
As for kids with their own cars, well its the parents fault for buying them them. A reflection of the ease with which finanace is available.

Well PAYG motoring is here. They're rolling it out in the next 18 months.
Personally, the moment I have to attach a GPS device to my bike to track my movements 24/7 or use RFID to clock my mileage I'm emmigrating.
That shits just not on.

Re: wtf's going on here then???
yeah theres no way any of my bikes are having a GPS fitted, that defo isnt on! And as you rightly say, im off if that does come in.
Ive always though road tax should be put onto fuel, the more yo use the roads the more you pay, simple as that. There is already a tax on 'gas guzzlers' i think its going upto about 400 quid a year i heard.

Re: wtf's going on here then???
My parents were farmers, and they swore by Volvo estates with 4 kids. (myself included, often slung in the boot with Pickles, our jack russell terrier dog thing)
Their campsite was fields. They drove the volvo 850 - petrol, mind - not using farm diesel or owt! drove it across the fields to check on the cows and campers. No 4 x 4 needed. My mum currently has a volvo T5R at the mo, best she's had to date. Bless.
I'll happily attach a GPS to my bike, nothing to hide. If they use it to prosecute me, I'll just keep riding without legal things like insurance, MOT, etc cos I cant afford them.
Not like there's any space in jail to put me, right?
And spending beyond my means could work well for me. I mean, go for debt resolution and pay penal fines at 10p a week, etc. Lol.
Anyway, I don't drive a car near towns if I can help it. Take a train to London, or coach. Too much congestion, not that patient.

Re: wtf's going on here then???
Come MOT time mate thats when they will fit them. Every car has to have one. The only cars that might get away with it are new cars that dont have to have an MOT after 3 years but then they have to have an MOT eventually. And cars that are SORNED, obviously untill they get an MOT.superman wrote:Its just not goin to work i tell ya cos who is gona fit them to there cars its a load of twaddle. but if it happens ill get one of them cars that dont use petrol thus eliminating the cost lol. but i probly wont be living here by then.
