How silly do I feel!!

Post by parby81 »

For all the problems the bike has been giving me, i feel like a bit of a muppet.

Having taken the carbs of the bike and sorted all the engine, it seems the whole runnning crap below 4k revs was my fault :smt005

I'd managed to put one of the tapered needles and holder that sit in the diaphragm in the wrong way round. Hence that needle was constantly open and flooding the cylinder with petrol. Only when the engine got going on full beans was this the right amount of petrol. Hence it worked great up high, but shite down low.

Well thats all sorted, and in cleaning the carbs out, there was a couple of hairs in the jets. They can't of helped either.

So now i will keep riding her to work just to keep an eye on anything unusual!!! :smt003

By the way, does anyone know what water or oil look like in petrol? When i drained the carbs, there was small white globules floating in the bottom of the petrol that had been drained. Any ideas anyone?

Don't feel silly anyone can make a mistake

To be fair more than once folks on here have described problems that have turned out to be something they did wrong themselves..................

As for water in your fuel I'd say you have described it perfectly

sorted !

water in fuel ? check the drain tube from the petrol cap to the back of the tank, they can block meaning if it rains and then you open the petrol cap, a bit of water goes in ..

thats cool, will this just go through the fuel system and be burnt off eventually? or do i need to do a fuel tank treatment or something?

I'lll check the brether later to make sure its not blocked though, so no more can get in.

sometimes its ok, sometimes its not ..

worst case is water can decide to sit in a jet and block it .. had this happen on a TZR250 and the ZX4 once .. case of limping home at 4000rpm and draining everything ..

if it runs fine, its ok :)

what an butt!!!

Well i cleaned out the blocked breather as suggested and managed to push a bit of silicone out of the end!! Filled it up today and found out why there is silcone in the end as fuel came dripping out of the breather pipe!! Obviously a hole in it somewhere. New tank need then!!, I've just bunged it back up for the time being.
