There seems to be more and more members appearing that are racing the ZXR400 so i've created a special section just for you to show off results, discuss meets etc etc.

Racing Head gasket

Post by Max4music »

Hello all

I'm just replacing the head gasket on my race bike. Ive done done it before on a standard bike no probs, the only difference with this engine is its had a bit of tuning work done including 0.5 oversize pistons. My question is, is the stock gasket ok to use 'as is'? I know the thickness is ok and I know I need to re-profile slightly wear the valves sit to line up with where its had been re-profiled on the barrels, but I would have thought the stock gasket would be 0.5mm to small on the bore, yet I keep looking carefully and its seems ok. Are the stock gaskets produced to allow for a slight overbore?

Any experience anyone can shed on this would be much appreciated?

Also I need a few shims, a bit deeper the usual, around the 3.35 mark as I'm running kent cams. Anyone know a good seller?

Thanks :smt002

Needs a bit of a lick with the die grinder, around the back of the valve relief pockets.

I got mine from Elite MX & Quads, just google them or see them on ebay...cheapest by far
