Problem already.
As I'm sure you all know I got a gsxr400. Just come in from riding it and noticed oil has been coming out of the right hand side of the head. Not huge amounts, but enough to go onto the fairing. The bike is running very well. Can I tighten the head to stop it leaking?
Action is the antidote to despair.

Re: Problem already.
i would be more inclined to do the head gasket before it goes and does more damage.

well if its the cam cover then the engine will be getting low on oil if its losing it, if its the head gasket it could warp the head.

Re: Problem already.
if its leaking from the head/block join which is unlikely then the gasket needs replacing anyway. wont warp the head if its not overheating.masterofinsanity wrote:no i meant if the head gasket blows.

maybe, maybe not.masterofinsanity wrote:ok maybe i'm looking at extreme cases?
im not sure how the head looks on one of these so dont know where the oil feed runs on them. could have overheated in the past and warped the head though but id go with zimm (cam cover)

Re: Problem already.
It does seem to get very hot, although the gauge doesn't reflect this. The exhaust stays too hot to touch for about half an hour after riding.

Re: Problem already.
are gixxer 4's water cooled? or are they oil cooled like the 750s/1100s of that era?
anyway. my money's on the rocker cover, purely because my ZXR's been leaking from there. I took it off last night and supplemented the rubber seal with a bead of instant gasket before torquing it back down. hopefully that will have sorted it.
