Paddock Bobbins

Post by Mori Man »

Out with the tools again today and got these fitted :smt003

Bought the OEM one's for my ZRX the 1st week I had it along with a Kawasaki paddock stand - can be a nightmare working on bikes with out centre stands!

Although i can adjust the paddock stand arms , I don't think I will bother as it's set for the ZRX and does the ZXR fine :smt001

You'll see I fitted another system on it today, Love the look and had already planned getting carbon sleeves for the cans and ditching the alloy ones :smt007 When i went to the makers website to get the dimensions I discovered that the pipe is only for 91~ bikes and it is :smt010

The can hanger strap hits it, the rear peg sits right on top and the outrigger for fixing the bottom panel on hits the system too :smt009 So it's going in the for sale section :smt010 need to start hunting for something else.

Fired it up again today, very quick to get going and i got it up to running temp' - after a fiddle with the HT leads and caps it did want to start idling so maybe a fresh set of plugs just might cure it. opening the throttle from 2K and it picked up instantly :smt003 Next run will be with the FCR's on, see what it's like then fit the new plugs.

looks ok ..

just dump the pillion pegs in the bin, fit a single seat, add a 20mm ally bracket between the fairing lowers and remount the rear fairing brackets only using the lower of the two holes on the frame, and a new can hanger !

clearance sorted !

probs gonna get twatted by the swingarm though once the suspension starts err suspending ..

Think my missus might "Twat" you for those comments :smt005

I did however consider the possibilities :smt003

I even thought of hiring a pipe bender and dropping the headers a mm or so to get them to exit a bit less but that freakin outrigger for the lower panel keeps coming back into the equation and I aint gonna run it "nekid" :smt017

Hoping it will give some one here some pleasure as it is very unique, damn - forgot to put the sound bytes of the bike running with them on the thread, DOH!!!

FCR's bolted on

Post by Mori Man »

Came home this afteroon and decided to fit the FCR's on and see how they went.

Fitted the SP inlet rubbers - very different from the originals and each has a vacuum take-off :smt001

Slotted in the carb's but didn't bother with the cables for just now.

Took the old plugs out and shoved in a set of NGK Iridium's i had in my tool box - had used them in my ZRX for around 1,000 Kms before picking up racing Denso's for it.

The jam jar was about half full with fuel and by the time the carb's had primed themselves it was empty - the bike briefly wanted to fire up :smt003

I then and went and filled it to the brim , shoved in the fuel line and pressed the starter with me holding the choke half open. Fired up and sat at 4k rev's dropped it back to 2K and let it sit at that for a while (about half a jam jar's worth :smt002 ) then let the choke go. It cut out but fired up again off the button and a small twiddle with the tickover had it running on it's own. biggrin

As it warmed up the idle became more erratic so guess they are needing balanced as they will have been set up for the bike they came off.

All in all very happy and the response opening them up is instant :smt003 :smt004 once warm I didn't feel that it wanted to get "bogged" down and reckon it would of reve'd right out - didn't want to piss the neighbours off too much :smt002

On the hunt for another exhaust brought me to my local used shop and "Bingo" they had one :smt038 The can is shall we say - empty bar a few stands of mesh kicking about inside it but that will be getting binned anyway as it's only the ti pipes I am interested in. Not the bargain I was hoping for but the pipework is in good all round condition so was worth the extra being able to actually view it.

There is a very nice bolt on "Over" racing alloy can available from the same network if anyone's interested, i also think they had a Vega sports carbon can too.

So, here is it idling cold - remember no cables attached so this is firing up straight of the button.

Getting a bit warmer now but you get a better idea of what the twin can sounds like :smt020

me likey fcr's .. just too much hassle and £££

however (and it may just be my speakers) that twin can system makes it sound like a couple of GPz500s' parked next to each other.

Here's a few more vid's for you - the FCR's are "da bomb" and worth the extra hassle :smt003 you don't need to bother with the TPS , mine is just dandling around and my ZRX had it on it's carbs and now nothing - doesn't effect the running in any way.

Forgot to mention that a couple of the headers are blowing , didn't bother with new gaskets this time :smt018

afaik the tps is just to operate a fuel solenoid to aid midrange running for the road going SP's and the racers disconnect it anyway... aftermarket 33mm FCR's dont have it.

im going away now.. or i'll end up spending money again ..
